Clock ticking away for securing Yasmin's custody

KOCHI: The NIA will have to expedite the process for securing custody of a 28-year-old Yasmin from Bihar, who was nabbed while allegedly trying to flee the country, for further interrogation. Yasmin has been linked to one of the missing persons identified as Abdul Rashid from Kasargod and she is the only one arrested in the case till now.

As per the norms, the investigation agency can seek the custody of the arrested only during the first remand period which is 30 days under the UAPA. With the first remand period of Yasmin set to be completed next week, the case has to be transferred to the NIA Court here and a petition seeking her custody should be filed without delay. As part of the procedure, the accused would be shifted to the city. According to the NIA officials, the procedures would be completed within the next few days.   “Even if the first remand period is over, we will interrogate her at the jail with the permission of the court. But we hope to complete the formalities within the next couple of days,” NIA officials claimed.

Yasmin is presently in jail in Kasargod. It was during the course of the state police investigation into the suspected IS recruits  that her role as an alleged IS recruiter came to light. Yasmin had been nabbed from New Delhi’s IGI Airport before she was to emplane for Kabul.
