SIMI camp: NIA for new video link facility

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency(NIA) is looking to establish a separate video conferencing facility to enable it to produce SIMI Wagamon camp case accused, who are currently lodged in Ahmedabad Central Jail. And the NIA move follows the unavailability of the video link, following the non-payment of dues to the company that had established the facility, at Ernakulam District Court hearing the case.

More importantly, Wagamon SIMI camp case trial has reached its closing stages which also prompted the NIA to  go in for a separate video conferencing facility.

“The work on installing the video conferencing system at NIA Court is going on.

The High Court has to give the nod for conducting the trial via the new video conferencing system,” NIA officials said.

In fact, the Central agency could not produce the accused via video conferencing during the last two hearings on account of the facility being rendered non-functional.
