KOCHI: The purported video footage as well as images of Fr Tom Uzhunnalil, who was abducted by gunmen belonging to the so-called Islamic State (IS), have been uploaded on Facebook.
It was uploaded from a Twitter account belonging to Taji Non and also carried a message: “I got a vid on WhatsApp for Fr Tom Uzhunnalil under torture.” In the video, the priest, who has been blindfolded, is shown being slapped by an unidentified person.
Besides, a purported image of Fr Tom Uzhunnalil shows him sporting a beard. And it also carries a header: “Fr Tom’s entreaty will be uploaded soon ..! will also be uploaded on Facebook.
”While the person, who appears in the video footage, bears an uncanny resemblance to the abducted priest, the face in the still image with a tent as the backdrop bears little resemblance to the prelate.
