Celebration on the Street for a Cause

Celebration on the Street for a Cause

KOCHI: The ‘Theruvutsavam’ organised by the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) on Sunday gave a new dimension to the city’s festive mood, making it an entirely different experience for Kochiites.

The Theruvutsavam was launched in tune with  ‘Raahgiri’ - which is observed in some other Indian cities - to create awareness among the public on the need to promote non-motorised transport.

Declaring a day dedicated for pedestrians, the Theruvustsavam was inaugurated by District Collector M G Rajamanickam. Around 500 parsons took part in the programme that began at 6.30 am.

‘Roads Are Your Playgrounds’ was the message given to pedestrians. Making the concept a reality, participants enjoyed their freedom by peddling cycle, drawing pictures and dancing on the street, which was blocked temporarily for the celebration.

The programme was conducted on the stretch between High Court Junction and Marine Drive. Actor Nivin Pauly was the Chief Guest.
