Police Chief to Oversee Murder Probe

KOCHI:  State Police Chief T P Senkumar will be directly supervising investigation into the Jisha murder case. The decision came in the wake of the Special Investigation Team failing to arres t the culprit(s) even ten days after the incident.

 Senkumar, who held a meeting with members of the investigation team on Friday night, will be stationed in Ernakulam to facilitate the probe.

‘Prestige Issue’

According to the police, Senkumar has directed police officials to take the investigation as a ‘prestige issue.’ The  Police Chief, meanwhile, visited noted forensic surgeon Dr B Umadathan at his residence here.

The police are also seeking assistance of certain retired police officers who have dealt with similar murder cases during their tenure. On Friday night, the investigation team took two more persons into custody and interrogated them. Currently, there are 27 persons in police custody in connection with the case.

According to the police, a lookout has been launched for some Kuruppampady-natives who left the place after Jisha was murdered.

The police are trying to keep track of a friend of Jisha’s sister, who is suspected to have moved to Bengaluru.
