Workshop to prepare visually challenged for competitive exams

The first batch will undergo training from October 2017 at the Chavara-SRVC Resource Centre, located on Monastery road.

KOCHI: The Society for the Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged (SRVC)  and Chavara International Institute for the Visually Challenged (CIIVC) jointly organised a workshop on how the visually challenged could prepare for competitive exams like Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, and Bank entrance. The workshop was conducted by the faculty of TIME and attended by over thirty aspiring visually-challenged youth. There were sessions on Communicative English, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, and Mathematics. TIME, along with SRVC and CIIVC, will offer the course free of cost. 

The event was followed by a valedictory function for the previous batches of visually challenged students who had successfully completed training in computers, communicative English and mobility from the CIIVC-SRVC centre. Fr Roby Kannanchira, Director Chavara Institute, presided over the function and Parveen Hafeez, MD of Sunrise Hospitals gave away the certificates. Pramodh M P, a visually challenged sports person who represented SRVC and won gold in the discus throw and the javelin at the Jaipur Nationals as well as a event of the International Blind Sports Federation, was  honoured by Sibi Mathew, GM Vivanta by Taj Malabar.

M C Roy Project Director, SRVC, Sunil J Mathew Secretary, SRVC, and Hardy Joseph, GM of TIME spoke on the occasion. Representing the visually challenged community, Gireesh, Jisha, Rahul and Mujeeb shared their experiences.The first batch will undergo training from October 2017 at the Chavara-SRVC Resource Centre located on Monastery road near Ernakulam South Railway Station.  The course duration will be two months.
