KOCHI: The Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has directed the director of the Department of Scheduled Castes Development to submit the report regarding the distribution of the lump-sum grant amount to eligible students in the Kudumbi community. Acting on a petition filed by Kerala Kudumbi Federation general secretary Sudheer that eligible students belonging to the community were not getting the due grant, the commission, headed by retired Justice G Sivarajan, directed the director of the department to submit a detailed report regarding the distribution of the grant.

The commission was holding a sitting at the Government Guest House at Ernakulam on Tuesday. It also received a petition forwarded by the Kerala Manpathra Nirmana Samudhaya Samithi which sought to consider the various communities engaged in pottery manufacturing as a unified force. Considering the petition, the commission stated steps to amend the OBC/SEBC List are being held at state level and their request would be considered during the time of the amendment.

The commission also said it would look into the demands of the Kerala state Latin Catholic Association which said in its petition that no action was taken on a report of the Justice Narendran Commission in 2001 which estimated the community had lost its due 4,370 posts in various departments.

The commission also considered a host of complaints submitted by various people in the sitting and referred for action. Commission members advocate V A Jerome and Mullurkara Muhammed Saqafi also attended the sitting.
