Traditional crafts woo visitors at Vyapar 2017

KOCHI: An exhibition of the conventional cottage and medium scale industries opened at Bolgatty in Kochi Thursday as paart of the sixth edition of international business to business meet, Vyapar 2017. Though the stalls of food processing units are receiving the highest number of queries, visitors are thronging the stalls of traditional crafts like jute carpets, palm leaf plates, bamboo products and herbal products in hordes.

Among the traditional Kerala products, organic coconut oil and virgin coconut oil are the most sought after. “There is a steady flow of visitors at our virgin coconut oil stall. The virgin coconut oil is extracted from fresh coconut milk obtained from mature kernel of coconut without heating it”, said a representative of CH Oil and Flour mill, Thrissur.

Firms like GSA Paper Products, and ATADCO Trading have found the exhibition and business meet a golden opportunity to market their products.

Eco-friendly products like paper bags, bamboo mugs and trays and jute bags are much in demand. Handicrafts carved out of coconut shells, photo-frames, jewels and paintings attract the delegates visiting the stalls.  “I am really impressed with these paper crafts and jute products. I have placed my orders with GSA Paper Products”, said Rajan Sujan, a buyer from Mumbai.

Enthusiastic buyers are thronging the stalls of industrial units. Many companies have arranged demonstration for the visitors. Products like water vending machine, scada system, aircraft exterior cleaner and various electrical appliances are being promoted by industrial units. 

Food processing units are showcasing nutritional products that help to control obesity and lifestyle diseases.
