KOCHI: The Ernakulam South police on Saturday arrested a 29-year-old online taxi driver on charges of misbehaving with a woman passenger. The officers said Sujith Somasekharan was arrested by the South Police from Nedumkandam based on a complaint lodged by the woman. “The accused entered into a verbal duel inside the car during the trip.

The woman complained the accused slapped her when she tried to take a video of the accused verbally abusing her. She said she had informed the driver about online payment at the start of the journey. However, the driver said he was not told about the online payment and he demanded currency so as to fuel the car. He said he tried to push the camera away when she tried to take his shots and his hand accidentally hit her,” an officer said.

The accused has been booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and was presented before a magistrate. He was later sent to judicial custody by a local court here.
