KOCHI: At least seven vehicles, including two trucks, were damaged in three separate accidents in the city in the early hours of Tuesday.

In the first incident, a truck fell over a car and a couple of two wheelers parked near the railway overbridge at South Kalamassery after the top part of the vehicle smashed against the concrete beam of the bridge while passing underneath.

However, the driver of the truck escaped unhurt in the accident that occurred around 2 am.

“No case has been registered as the truck owner settled the issue by paying compensation to the owners of the vehicles damaged in the accident. Moreover, nobody was injured in the incident,” said an officer with City Traffic Police (West) station.

The police said the two-wheelers parked near the railway overbridge belonged to the students of Cusat.
“Illegal parking has been creating congestion here, leading to accidents. Besides, the drivers often fail to notice the beam of the bridge, which is only nine-feet high. Earlier, a lorry transporting an elephant to Aluva also hit the beam of the bridge,” the police added.

In another mishap, a speeding truck rammed the side rail of the flyover at Edappally Junction in the morning. The City Traffic Police (West) said a case was registered against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving.

In the third incident, a truck rammed a two-wheeler near the Cheranalloor Junction on the Container Road around 6 am on Tuesday.

The bike rider suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital.

20 injured

As many as 20 persons were injured after a lorry hit the tourist bus in which they were travelling at Angamaly on Tuesday morning. The bus was on its way to Munnar from Kozhikode. The police said the accident occurred at Karukutty Junction on the national highway around 4 am. The passengers who suffered minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after administering first aid. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
