KOCHI: Passengers of two cars and a tipper lorry had a miraculous escape on Thursday morning when the vehicles were involved in a collision at Irumpanam toll plaza near here.Aluva native Jobees Jose (28) suffered minor injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. He was discharged by Thursday evening. The tipper carrying sand was moving towards Kakkanad from Tripunithura. A Toyota Innova, coming from the opposite side, lost control while trying to overtake and collided with the tipper.

The Innova turned turtle due to the impact. Meanwhile, two cars coming from Kakkanad lost control and had a head-on collision. The driver of the Innova sustained injuries, while the other drivers and passengers escaped unhurt.“The sound heard during the collision was a frightening one. We thought someone might have died. Fortunately, nobody sustained any serious injuries,” said a bystander.

Though the tipper escaped any major damage, the Innova and the Chevrolet were mangled in the accident. The front portion of the Innova was completely damaged.According to the police, overspeeding was the main reason. “Since traffic was minimal at the time, all the vehicles were travelling at speeds above 80 km/h. This might have resulted in the accident. We are yet to lodge a case and an inquiry is on,” the police said.
