Kochi cops bust gang supplying contraband to techies in city

The city police have busted a five-member gang supplying contraband to IT professionals based in Infopark here and seized around 1.5 kg ganja from them.

KOCHI: The city police have busted a five-member gang supplying contraband to IT professionals based in Infopark here and seized around 1.5 kg ganja from them.
The arrested are Sibi, 25, and Firoz, 25, both hailing from Mannam, near Manjali; Thanseer, 20, Anoop, 20, and Rufees, 20, all natives of Puthuvype.
The gang is known as ‘Shango Bros’ in the IT circle, and the three Puthuvype natives had been providing MMDA and LSG drugs to IT professionals, the police said.

The police zeroed in on the racket after receiving information about them from two IT professionals arrested by the Shadow Police for using ganja. The sleuths approached them in the guise of techies seeking ganja. They asked the sleuths to come to a beer parlour at Ernakulam Market. The cops nabbed two of them while handing over the drug to them at the beer parlour. The cops also seized around 750 gm of ganja concealed in a motorcycle.

The three other accused were arrested from a flat at Elamakkara, where they had been residing. The officers said the trio was under the influence of drugs while the police took them into custody.The gang used to supply contraband to alleged rave parties at the Infopark area during weekends. The gang members are expert bike riders and they hand over the contraband to the customers and flee from the spot within seconds on their motorbikes.

The gang used to smuggle ganja from Oddanchatram in Tamil Nadu to Kochi on motorbikes, an officer said.The City Police Commissioner had received complaints that contraband was supplied at a few marriage parties in the city, and an inquiry based on the information helped nab the gang. They procure the contraband from Goa and smuggle it to Kochi in inter-state goods lorries transporting vegetables.
