AITUC, CITU workers clash at IOC bottling plant in Kerala's Ernakulam

Workers affiliated to the AITUC and CITU at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) bottling plant clashed at Udayamperoor on Monday.

KOCHI: Workers affiliated to the AITUC and CITU at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) bottling plant clashed at Udayamperoor on Monday.

Four members of the AITUC and two from CITU were hospitalised with injuries after the incident. According to IOC officials, seven workers affiliated to the AITUC had obtained a court order to work at the bottling plant.

As they arrived at the bottling plant for work around 6.15 am on Monday, workers affiliated to the CITU prevented them from entering the plant. This triggered a scuffle between members of both the trade unions. Members of CITu alleged the AITUC was purposefully creating trouble.

Police have registered two cases against seven persons- members of AITUC and CITU. The injured persons were admitted to hospitals in Tripunithura and Poothotta. No arrest has been made. Police have been deployed at the plant anticipating trouble on Tuesday.
