KOCHI: The hand that rocks the cradle has stormed male bastions. From space walking to rubbing shoulders with men in the army to heading IT MNCs, they have been there, done that. Now,  they are gearing up to break the digital glass ceiling, one click at a time.
The website www.womenpoint.in, an exclusive news portal for women slated to be officially launched this month, is a first in the history of Kerala.

“The idea was borne out of a polemic that  masochist mainstream media was giving a short shrift to women,” says activist-journalist R Parthvati Devi, one of the brains behind the novel initiative.
‘Debate, Discussion, Friendship - A Space for Women’ is the tagline for the bi-lingual portal.
“We will curate, verify and translate vital news on women. The web portal will primarily focus on providing a comprehensive digital space for women to meet, express and deliberate opinions,” she says.

At a time when abuse on women is celebrated, the website is set to turn the collective glare to the success stories which either get buried or are conveniently glossed over by the gender-insensitive media.
Taking cognizance of the veritable fact that history has been utterly unjust to women, the portal aims to document the macro and micro issues of women in Kerala from a gender vantage point. The key segments vindicate their intent: Round table, viewpoint, complaint box, help desk and the news page, to name a few.
Suneetha Balakrishnan, writer-translator, and Suja Susan George, director, Malayalam Mission and cultural activist, along with Parvathy, are some of the faces behind the website.
