Kochi Metro ready for integrated trial run

KOCHI: The integrated trial run of Kochi Metro is likely to be held  over the next two-three days. Integrated trial is service  along both tracks at the same time at highest speed. Efficiency and functioning of signalling system and other technical facilities will be cross-checked.

The construction of station and other facilities along the 14 km stretch from Aluva to Palarivattrom has almost been completed. Work on platforms, toilets and electrification will be completed by this month-end.
The Metro Rail safety commissioner will conduct an inspection in April first week for the final clearance for starting service. The safety of Metro coaches and rail line,  running of train on both tracks at a time and signalling will be thoroughly verified by the safety commissioner before giving the green signal for regular operations.
If the permission is given during April first week, the service can be launched by the end of the month, said an officer of DMRC, the consultant of the project. The service can be extended to Maharajas over the next four months. Kochi One Card, the travel card for Kochi Metro, will be released before the inauguration of the service. Though the card is envisaged as a multi- purpose card, it can be used only for Metro service in the initial stage.
