Health Minister Nadda intervention sought in medical negligence cases in Kerala

The Justice V R Krishna Iyer Movement has written to J P Nadda demanding action in the wake of the back-to-back patient deaths at the Ernakulam Government Medical College due to alleged negligence.

KOCHI: The Justice V R Krishna Iyer Movement has written to Union Health Minister J P Nadda demanding action in the wake of the back-to-back patient deaths at the Ernakulam Government Medical College (GMC), allegedly due to medical negligence.

Dr N K Sanil Kumar of the Krishna Iyer Movement,who drew the minister’s attention to the issue, said two young patients had breathed their last at the GMC in the last 12 months due to medical negligence.

“On July 18, 2016 a MBBS student died due to medical negligence at the Ernakulam Government Medical College. Again on March 26, 2017, another patient died without getting proper medical attention. Although two commissions appointed by the state government had enquired into the death of the medical student, no follow-up action was taken on the reports even  seven months on,” it said.

Quoting from the reports,the missive,further, said the deceased medico did not receive any attention in the ward which lacked life-saving drugs and even an oxygen supply system.

“The situation in the medical college is really pathetic,” said Dr Sanil.
