Kochi Metro appoints more transgender people

Kochi Metro, which earned acco lades for being the first rapid transit utility to employ transgenders, will appoint 20 transgender people recruited by Kudumbashree.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kochi Metro, which earned acco lades for being the first rapid transit utility to employ transgenders, will appoint 20 transgender people recruited by Kudumbashree.
At present, 13 transgender people are working in various positions in 11 stations of Kochi Metro.
The transgenders were selected through the Facility Management Centre of Kudumbashree. They will be appointed at the customer facilitation centre and in the house keeping section of Kochi Metro. The transgender employees were selected through an inteveiew attended by 24 applicants. Kudumbashree and Kochi Metro will provide skill training to the new employees. 


After training they will be deployed in the eleven stations of Kochi Metro - Palarivattom, Changampuzha Park, Edappally, Pathadippalam, Cusat, Kalamassery, Muttom, Ambattukavu, Kampanipadi, Pulinchuvadu and Aluva.The appointment of transgender people would help them assimilate better with mainstream society, a release from Kudumbashree said.
