Kochiites find food delivery apps plagued with glitches

Foodies in the city are a happy lot since they no longer have to go out in search of restaurants to satiate their craving for good food.

KOCHI: Foodies in the city are a happy lot ince they no longer have to go out in search of restaurants to satiate their craving for good food. The coming of well-networked food delivery apps has come as a blessing even for those who find themselves in a tight spot when guests arrive unannounced. However, it took some time for the apps to find a footing in the city.

One such food delivery app Uber Eats was launched in Kochi recently. According to the representatives of Uber Eat, they have around 200 restaurant partners in key neighbourhoods like Kaloor, Panampilly Nagar, Marine Drive and Elamkulam. “Some popular restaurant the consumers have been ordering from since we launched in Kochi are Cocoa Tree, Gokul Oottupura, Milano Ice creams, Chai Cofi and Sardarji Da Dhaba,” said Uber Eats.

The representatives, however, said, since it has only been two weeks since the launch, it is early to comment on the response in Kochi. “However, we are positive Uber Eats will be well received in the city.” The Uber Eats platform charges delivery fee of rupee one.But not all customers are satisfied.

“The app is fine. However, the quality of food the restaurants send is another matter. Recently, I bought food from a restaurant at Elamakkara. The food was not good. It would be good if the service providers look into the quality of restaurants they list,” said Anand, a customer of Uber Eats.

The other apps that promise on the doorstep delivery in the city are Zomato, Swiggy and Food Panda.  However, business has not been a smooth sailing for nearly all these apps. “There are troubles with the delivery and the connected restaurants fail to play an active role. Most of the restaurants decline the offers promoted by the app when an order is placed. Some of them do deliver and provide good service, but the time taken is a bit long,” said Ramlath, an online food app user.
