KOCHI: Syro-Malabar Church head Cardinal Mar George Alenchery, who visited Rome to attend the installation ceremony of 14 Cardinals, attended the holy mass as a concelebrant along with the Cardinals at St Peter’s Square on June 29. He also met Pope Francis briefly after the mass.
Later, he met Prefect of the Oriental Congregation Cardinal Leonardo Sandri and discussed with him matters pertaining to the Catholic Church in India and the needs of the Syro-Malabar communities in the Gulf countries. Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Cardinal Baselios Cleemis and Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese Administrator Mar Jacob Manathodath were also present at the consistory. Mar Manathodath discussed his new responsibilities with Cardinal Sandri and Secretary of the Congregation Archbishop Cyril Vasiline.
Cardinal Alenchery addressed the representatives of the youth who were in Rome. He visited two convents and held Eucharistic celebrations for them.
