Ola agrees to pay for All-India trip after Kochi-based driver protests

KOCHI: A city-based online taxi driver, who went on an all-India trip booked under ‘Ola Money’ on July 1, had the fright of his life on getting back as the online taxi company refused to pay the fare for the trip which came to around Rs 90,000.  

Rajeev K V, a resident of Kangarappadi, here was forced to run from pillar to the post to get the money but the Ola Cabs authorities deleted the trip history from the software application. Following this, Rajeev and his wife Remya begun a sit-in protest in front of the Ola office, near the Ernakulam North Railway Station, on Thursday.

“I had no option other than to stage the protest,” said Rajeev. Following the intervention of Ernakulam North SI Vipin Das, the Ola authorities agreed to pay the money within four days and Rajeev withdrew the strike. The official spokesperson of Ola confirmed the issue has indeed been resolved.

As per Rajeev’s complaint, after embarking on the trip he paid the diesel, permit fee, and other expenses from his own pocket since the money is credited to his account once the trip has been completed.  However, on July 12, a joint Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh Police team nabbed the occupants of the car in a case from Belagavi.

He returned to Kochi after lodging a complaint with the Belagavi City Police Commissioner. Since the money had not been credited to his account as promised by the Ola authorities. However, his trip history had been deleted from Ola application. Later, he lodged a complaint with the police.
