KOCHI: In a move which will provide succour to the general public, a nocturnal dialysis unit has been made available at the Government General Hospital(GH) here. With this, another 24 persons will be able to undergo dialysis in a day. Presently, 97 people undergo dialysis at the GH on a daily average.
The GH currently has 23 dialysis machines. The night time dialysis is being funded by Soughyam charitable trust headed by Hibi Eden and the inauguration was performed by Asif Ali. He also inaugurated the non- invasive cardiac lab funded by Ludy Luis. Using the 50 lakh fund , 2D echocardiography, 24- hour Holter monitoring, cardiac pacemaker and cardiac treadmill have been set up the lab.
“ We are allotting the fund for the night time dialysis considering the fact the service is availed by indigent kidney patients,” said Hibi Eden MLA. Ludy Luis MLA and District Collector K Mohammed Y Safeerulla too were present.The people included under the RSBY scheme are given free dialysis while others have to pay Rs 100 to avail themselves of the service. Now, though, 1,000 dialyses can be performed every week. Until now, 53,000 dialyses have been performed at the GH.
