Experts point to lack of infrastructure for deer deaths at Kerala's at Tripunithura Hill Palace

There is no proper shelter for the deer and the lack of infrastructure facilities was pointed out as one of the major reasons for the exposure of animals to rain.

KOCHI: The veterinary experts, who looked into the death of 11 deer at the deer park at Tripunithura Hill Palace museum, have observed heavy monsoon showers and exposure of the animals to rain might have resulted in the incident. There is no proper shelter for the deer and the lack of infrastructure facilities was pointed out as one of the major reasons for the exposure of animals to rain.

Last week 13 animals had died at the deer park. The park has a total of 280 spotted deer and 36 sambar deer. The animals initially had shown symptoms of the disease and refused to take  food. The museum authorities said the condition of the remaining animals is satisfactory and medicines are being given to them regularly. They are waiting for the test result from the laboratory. The park authorities said they will build a shed to prevent animals being exposed to heavy rain.
