KOCHI: A search committee has been formed to select the new Cusat VC, with B Ekbal, former Kerala University VC as Cusat nominee; M Jagadesh Kumar, VC of JNU as UGC nominee, and Chief Secretary Tom Jose as government nominee.
According to R Sasidharan, VC in-charge of Cusat, the selection process will take around three months.
"The committee has to convene a meet and issue a notification inviting applications. This will take at least a month. The screening of the applicants and the final selection process will take another two months. But the new VC will be appointed in three months. It won't take more time than that," he said. Sasidharan, who assumed charge as the VC in-charge on Saturday, said, "My immediate job is to ensure the status quo is maintained. We have to keep up the grades the university has achieved since we are in contention for the Chancellor's Award."
Taking up the development programmes launched by former VC J Letha, as part of making the varsity a centre of excellence, will be the priority for Sasidharan."I am just a caretaker. My job is to ensure the university runs smoothly without any hiccups, during the time taken for the selection of the new VC," he said.
