Navy Chief arrives on two-day visit to Kochi

KOCHI: Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), arrived at the Southern Naval Command (SNC), Kochi, for a two-day visit on Monday. He was accompanied by wife Reena Lanba, president, Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA). They were received at the Naval Air Station, INS Garuda, by Vice Admiral A R Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Southern Naval Command and Sharmila A Karve, president, NWWA, (Southern Region).

The Chief of the Naval Staff will present all gallantry and non-gallantry awards announced by the President on the Republic Day this year, as well as unit citations to meritorious personnel and units of the Navy during the Naval Investiture Ceremony - 2018, which scheduled to be held in Kochi on Tuesday. Admiral Sunil Lanba inaugurated the new Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic building at Muvattupuzha on Monday.

Earlier, the Polyclinic was functioning at a rented building. The present ECHS building has the unique distinction of being partly funded by contributions from a trust formed by ex-servicemen of Muvattupuzha for the purpose besides, the `1.55 crore allotted by the Navy for constructing the building. After the Investiture Ceremony on Tuesday, the Chief of the Naval Staff will inaugurate a new residential building, built at a cost of `17.7 crores, for international trainee officers.
