Tippers’ murderous run claims 3 lives

KOCHI: The spectre of accident deaths which looms over speeding tipper lorries on Monday came true yet again, with three lives being lost in two separate mishaps near Tripunithura and Perumbavoor. 
Ratheesh, 40, and his wife Raji, 32, hailing from Kinginimattom near Kolancheri died after a tipper lorry mowed down the motorcycle they were travelling around 3.40 pm. The mishap occurred on Kolancheri-Thiruvamkulam road, said officers.

Ratheesh, a daily wage worker, used to pick up his wife employed as a home maid in Kottayam,  from Tripunithura after work. On Monday the couple were en route home when the mishap occurred. The Hill Palace police have registered a case.In the second incident, a 50-year old woman was killed and her husband sustained injuries after a tipper lorry rammed their motor bike at Bhuvaneswari Junction near Perumbavoor .  The deceased is Geetha, 50, wife of Sajikumar.

According to the police,  the incident took place around 4 pm when the lorry knocked over the two-wheeler proceeding in the same direction after the driver lost control. Geetha, who was thrown off the bike was run over by the lorry. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to injuries, police said. However,  Sajikumar escaped with minor injuries. A case case was registered against the lorry driver.
