KOCHI: Author and activist Arundhati Roy has criticised Christian Church leaders for meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Kerala. The Booker Prize winner said that she was saddened by the fact that so many people visited him.

“In the last two years, there have been 300 attacks on churches. How can you even have a conversation with such people? said Arundhati Roy. She was speaking at the Youth Literature Festival in Kochi on Sunday.

Highlighting the atrocities meted out to minorities in states such as Manipur, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, she said, “It is like a lit matchstick asking the firewood to give them a chance. Kerala will burn if you give BJP a chance.”

For the BJP, Kerala has become an ego issue, Arundhati added.  She also praised the Kerala government’s decision to retain portions omitted in the NCERT school curriculum.
