KOLKATA: Shalishi Sabha or Bengal's Khap panchayat strikes again, this time in capital metropolis Kolkata, that too in a community club. The accused are allegedly Trinamool workers.

A few days after a Shalishi Sabha ordered 108 lashes and cutting of a woman's hair in a Murshidabad village  accusing her of adultery, a Shalishi Sabha convened in a community club in Ultadanga area of Kolkata allegedly beat up a woman in front of her kin.

According to sources, victim Anita Singha and her sister-in-law Anu Singha were called in a club in Gorapada Sarkar Lane in Ultadanga and Anita Singha was allegedly beaten up by outsider women on Wednesday in a way of 'solving' a dispute. The prime accused Toton and Basu Dutta have been absconding since the past two days.

However, Ultadanga Police says the feud was a 'family matter' in which outsiders intervened. "Cases under Sections 323, 341, 506 and 114 of IPC have been booked. Both sides have been absconding since the incident happened.

Investigation is underway," Ultadanga police station in-charge told Express.

Distancing Trinamool Congress from the incident, Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee said the accused would be removed from the party.
