Bengal COVID-19 cases near 4,000; Mamata government makes mandatory for domestic passengers to fill self-declaration forms at airport

The passengers also need to undergo health screening after their arrival at the airport, the advisory by the Health Department said on Monday.

KOLKATA: Six more people died due to COVID-19 in West Bengal on Monday, taking their number to 206 as 149 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the state, a bulletin issued by the Health Department said.

Of the six fatalities due to the contagion, four were from the metropolis and one death each was reported in North 24 Parganas and Howrah districts, it said.

The state also reported 149 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total to 3,816, of which 2,123 are active.

Of the 149 new cases, 34 were reported in Malda district, followed by 28 in Kolkata, 14 in North Parganas, 13 each in Howrah and North Dinajpur, 10 in East Medinipur, seven in West Burdwan, five in Murshidabad, four in South 24 Parganas, three in East Burdwan, two each in Darjeeling and Birbhum, and one case each was reported in South Dinajpur and Nadia, the bulletin said.

Since Sunday, 75 patients have been discharged, taking the total number of people who have recovered from the disease to 1,414.

A total of 9,225 samples have been tested since Sunday evening and the total number of such tests conducted so far stands at 1,48,049, the bulletin said.

People entering the state once domestic flights are allowed in the state from Thursday must submit a self-declaration form stating that they had not tested positive for COVID-19 in the past two months, according to an advisory.

The passengers also need to undergo health screening after their arrival at the airport, the advisory by the Health Department said on Monday.

"All passengers are required to submit filled-up self-declaration form at the time of arrival," it said.

"Asymptomatic passengers will be permitted to go with the advice that they shall self monitor their health for 14 days."

In case they develop any symptoms, they shall inform the local medical officer or the state call centre, the advisory said.

All symptomatic passengers will be taken to the nearest health facility for testing samples, it said.

"And those with moderate or severe symptoms will be admitted to the dedicated COVID-19 health facility and managed accordingly," the advisory said.

Regular sanitization, disinfection shall be done at the airport, the advisory stated, adding that there should be adequate availability of sanitisers at different points.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has established a chain of dialysis units after reports that such services were disrupted due the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said.

The dialysis services, both run departmentally as well as in the public-private partnership model, covering every corners of the state, he said.

"Necessary support will be provided by nominated nephrologists, attached for each district, who will act as mentors and provide technical guidance to the district as and when necessary," it added.

The department has also issued another advisory stating that dialysis units, which were closed due to a patient testing COVID-19 positive, might resume operations after proper sanitisation.
