MUMBAI: In what appears to be a beginning of fresh trouble for actor Sanjay Dutt, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him for failing to appear before Andheri Court in a case related to alleged threatening by filmmaker Shakil Noorani.

According to industry sources, the case dates back to 2002 when a complaint filed by film producer Noorani alleged that the actor had failed to complete his movie ‘Jaan Ki Baazi’, despite pocketing the Rs 50 lakh signing amount.

Noorani then moved to Bombay High Court which ordered for recovery of the amount through the actor’s properties.  Noorani also registered a complaint with the Andheri Court alleging that he was being threatened by underworld goons on behest of the actor.

The court then issued a non-bailable warrant against Dutt in 2013, which was subsequently cancelled after he appeared in the court.

However, in the meantime Dutt was convicted in 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case and subsequently imprisoned, following which the case could not progress.

After Dutt's release from the prison, Noorani's advocates moved an application in the month of February to summon the actor to the court. It was during the hearing of this plea that the court issued yet another non-bailable warrant against the Khalnaayak of Bollywood.

A statement from Dutt's spokesperson read that the present situation arose because of a 'communication lapse' between producer Noorani's lawyers and that of the former.  "We respect the urgency shown by the honourable court regarding our attendance/ representation and we would take immediate measure to rectify the situation," the statement added.
