KOLLAM: The 40th anniversary of Navarangam, Mayyanad, a centre providing training in kathakali, dance, music and music instruments, will be celebrated on January 10 to 11.
Addressing a news conference, Navarangam president Kootikada Ashraf and secretary Radhakrishnan said a family meet of the members, alumni and those who were associated with the organisation will be held as part of the celebrations on Sunday.
A kathakali appreciation class will be held under the leadership of Kalamandalam Rajiv.
Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas will inaugurate the cultural meet at 5 p.m. on Sunday. A.A. Aziz MLA, will honour the dignitaries.
District Collector A. Shajahan will deliver the keynote address. DySP C.G. Suresh Kumar will distribute the prizes to the winners of the arts competitions.
Kavalam Narayana Panicker, Mayyanad K. Balakrishnan, Thonnakkal Peethambaran, Kalamanadalam Naryanankutty, Kalanilayam Manmadhan, Kalanilayam Krishnankutty Marar and Kalamandalam Surendran will be honoured at the function.
Mayyanad grama panchayat president A. Fatahudeen, KPCC executive member N. Azhakesan, PRD additional director P.K. Lal, Janata Dal district president K.S. Kamarudeen Musliyar and Mayyanad Kesavan Namboodiri will speak.
K. Shaji Babu will welcome the gathering and secretary Radhakrishnan will propose a vote of thanks.
