THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: T V Chandramohan is likely to be appointed as the new DCC president of Thrissur. A discussion in this regard was held between KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy with veteran Congress leader K.Karunakaran. Both the leaders had called on the leader at his home here on Tuesday.

Karunakaran has been pitching for Chandramohan for the post following the resignation of C.N.Balakrishnan. He had to quit office following the allegation over the row created on the disrespect shown to the dead body of a Youth Congress leader.

Some leaders from Thrissur had given a complaint to the AICC leadership for not filling the DCC president’s post lying vacant for the past four months. It is learnt that following the complaint, the AICC had given a directive to the KPCC to appoint the president at the earliest as the local self-government elections are due next year.

Karunakaran had voiced his concern over not appointing his nominee as the Thrissur DCC president when A.K.Antony had met him recently. However, the KPCC had apprised the AICC leadership that there was difficulty in appointing the new president following intense pressure from certain groups.

Following the directive from the AICC, both the leaders met Karunakaran to sort out the issue and it is learnt that Chandramohan is all set to be appointed as the new president.

Karunakaran, during his meeting with both the leaders, has also raised the issue of the re-entry of his son K.Muraleedharan into the party. The veteran leader is learnt to have expressed his dissatisfaction over the KPCC’s delay in taking a decision on this issue.

The KPCC president had said in the last KPCC Executive Committee meeting that he would be holding discussions with the veteran leader on this issue soon after he was discharged from the hospital.

Karunakaran had raised his concern over the way the KPCC is handling this issue to A.K.Antony when he met him.

Antony had conveyed the veteran leader’s anxiety over the issue to the KPCC president and the Opposition Leader.
