THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A Kollam-based Vedic Mathematician claims to have come up with a simple proof for the famous ‘Fermat’s Last Theorem,’ which is termed as one of the most intriguing and enigmatic mathematical problems ever devised.

S. Haridas, a retired Maths teacher and Vedic Mathematician, in a press conference here on Saturday, claimed that he has discovered a simple proof for the complex theorem. According to Haridas, he has developed the proof in such a way that even high school students can understand it. According to a statement made by Pierre de Fermat in 1637, ‘it is impossible to separate any power higher than the second into two like powers.’ No correct proof was found for 357 years. And, Andrew Wiles published a complicated proof of over 200 pages in 1995.

Haridas, a disciple of renowned Sanskrit scholar Prof K.P. Narayana Pisharody, was able to evaluate 251st root of a 794-digit number within 1 min 40 sec.
