THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The international conference on resurgence of State-owned enterprises being hosted by the Industries and Commerce Department will be inaugurated by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) assistant secretary-general Jomo Kwame Sundaram.

“The conference is aimed at adopting international best practices in improving the performance of public sector enterprises. The exchange of ideas will help in finding new methods and policies for the revival of State-owned industries,’’ Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said while unveiling the logo for the conference here on Tuesday.     

The conference is scheduled to be held here on December 10 and 11. It is expected to have representations from policy makers and experts on ‘state-owned enterprises’ from Europe, Africa, New Zealand, South Asia etc., apart from international bodies and those from other States, Central public sector enterprises, trade union leaders, academicians and the media.

The Public Sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board (RIAB), under the Industries Department, has been vested with the responsibility of conducting the conference. The two-day conference will have sessions on topics such as policy development in State-owned enterprises governance since 1990s,  State-owned enterprises reconstruction policy implementation - international experience,  State-owned enterprises resurgence in Kerala - strategic initiatives,  monitoring and performance management systems for State-owned enterprises and strengthening environment, social and governance policies of State-owned enterprises.
