THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Want to book a hotel in Kazhakkoottam? Try some other date. Most of the hotels in the area have been booked by companies in Technopark. As companies enter troubleshooting mode ahead of the strike, most of the hotels in the area are booked in advance.
The 24-hour strike call by various trade unions is likely to affect the companies, which work 24x7. Some BPO companies and those which follow the US time too are in the fear of getting their work affected.
To leave no stone unturned, some of the companies have arranged accommodation, convoy and even food for the employees. According to Saju, manager of Al Saj hotel in Kazhakkoottam, almost all the rooms are booked by Technopark companies. “We have around 170 rooms. Except 20, all the rooms are booked,” he said. Saju added that the situation is same during all the strikes.
Apart from this, some companies have their own guest houses where they arrange employee accommodation.
Technopark authorities are also arranging a convoy for its employees. Any employee with company ID can use the service of any of these vehicles. Usually, the Technopark convoy gets police protection. Unfortunately, last year, a convoy was attacked during a strike.
On Tuesday, police protection will be provided to the convoy from Peroorkada Junction, Poojappura, East Fort and Attingal.
The convoy will start from the respective locations by 8 am. After work, the employees can avail of the service of the convoy available at 5 pm. Mails containing routes and contact details have been sent to employees in this regard.
Not just vehicles, some companies also distribute food for their employees.
The executive meeting of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) held here last year expressed wonder over the fact that despite having so many strikes, not a single working day of Technopark was compromised so far.
Various trade unions have called a 24-hour strike on Tuesday in protest against rising prices, disinvestment of profit-making PSUs and violation of labour laws, among other issues.
