THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Accepting the long-pending demand of the MLAs, the state PWD will restructure the jurisdiction of its assistant engineers based on Assembly constituencies. PWD will soon come up with a constituency-wise map for the state. Development works in the constituencies was a Herculean task for the MLAs since the jurisdiction of PWD assistant engineers was spread in different constituencies.

PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju had appointed NATPAC to study about the possibility of reorganising the jurisdiction of assistant engineers. The NATPAC report submitted the other day has ensured the service of an assistant engineer for each constituency. Some constituencies even have two. PWD would also create a road register and individual constituency map.

On constituency-basis, there would be 177 sections. Currently there are 176 district- wise sections. Malappuram constituency has the highest number of new sections. Five new sections will come up in Malappuram, making the total number of sections to 16.   According to Minister’s office, no new post will be generated as part of the restructuring. NATPAC report has reorganised the sections with the existing posts. The modification was included considering the practical difficulties of MLAs in carrying out the development activities in their constituencies.
