Seminar on managing biomedical waste

Toxics Link, New Delhi, and the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) are jointly organising a state-level seminar ‘Issues and challenges in managing biomedical waste & the phasing out of mercury from the healthcare sector of Kerala’ at the Harmony Hall, Mascot Hotel, on Wednesday.

 K Muraleedharan MLA will inaugurate the seminar. P Sreekantan Nair, director, Environment and Climate Change, will deliver the keynote address.

  The topics in the seminar include ‘Gaps in implementing biomedical waste management in Kerala’, ‘Status of authorisation and challenges faced to improve compliance’, ‘Journey towards improving compliance: Experience of an NGO’, ‘Occupational safety and BMW Management- a nurses’ perspective’, ‘Issues of mercury toxicity and mercury waste management in the healthcare sector of Kerala’, ‘Strategies planned for biomedical waste management in the state’, ‘Managing liquid waste/ effluents in healthcare sector’, ‘Bottlenecks in biomedical waste management- Necessities  in establishing centralised treatment facilities,’ ‘Plugging gaps in managing medical waste’, ‘Salient features of IMAGE & future prospects’, ‘Experience-sharing by a tertiary healthcare in managing medical waste’ and ‘Road map for future of BMW and elimination of mercury from the healthcare sector of Kerala-Action Plan.’
