THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A quiz programme for city schools, open house and an invited lecture on energy conservation are among the programmes planned by the Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS), Akkulam, on April 25, which is being celebrated as Earth Day-2012.

CESS laboratories will be open to students and general public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day. The open house programme is intended for creating awareness about various activities undertaken by CESS, Dr V Nandakumar, chairman, Earth Day-2012 celebrations convener, said in a statement.

CESS is also organising a quiz for students of Standard X to XII. The Earth Day Quiz will be on the theme ‘Mobilise the Earth - Green Initiatives.’ A maximum of three teams from a school can participate.

The quiz is open to schools in Thiruvananthapuram district only. The teams should apply by April 20. The application, along with a certificate proving the class of study of the students and the affiliation of the school of each team member, should be submitted to ‘The Convener, Earth Day-2012, Centre for Earth Science Studies, Akkulam, Thiruvananthapuram-31.
