THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mass drug administration for eradication of filariasis will begin in 11 districts in the state on April 26, 27 and 28. According to the programme, everyone will be given one dose of DEC, albandazole once a year.
Kerala has the largest number of people living under the threat of filaria attack. Even if the symptoms are not manifested, the causative organism might be in the population in the dormant form.
Starting from April 26, health workers will visit houses and distribute the medicines against filaria. Medicines will also be distributed through hospitals and health centres.
Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad are now exempted from the programme.
