THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a gruesome incident, a 40-year- old-man was killed in broad daylight near Manacaud junction here after his friend hit him with a rock on his head following a brawl.

Sunil, a native of Pallimukku near Pettah, was killed by his friend Mani alias Ayyappa Chettiyar on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Sunil and  Ayyappa Chettiyar who were friends and engaged in mango plucking had consumed alcohol together.

During that time there was a verbal duel between the two over some silly issues. Since the two were in an inebriated state, the verbal battle turned into a street brawl.  When Sunil began attacking Chettiyar, he reacted by using a stone to attack Sunil on his head. In this fatal attack, Sunil was injured on his head. The incident occurred in front of Manacaud GHSS.

The public who witnessed the act informed the police and the injured was taken in a 108 ambulance to a private hospital. But Sunil breathed his last before reaching the hospital.  The body was then shifted to the Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Later in the evening, Ayyappa Chettiyar was arrested by the police.
