THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A DYFI local leader has been arrested in connection with violence that erupted at Chenthitta area late on Sunday night. Pradosh Kumar, 33, the president of Chenthitta unit, was apprehended on Monday. Sporadic violence had erupted when a two-wheeler was hit by a police vehicle. Three people were injured in the accident and the local people who gathered on the spot alleged that the policemen in the vehicle had tried to drive off without caring about the injured.

 The local people and the CPM activists,  alleging that the policemen in the vehicle did not try to help the injured, blocked a police patrolling team. Meanwhile, more policemen were deployed and they lathi-charged the mob.  The DYFI leader, arrested on charges of assaulting policemen on duty and unlawful assembly, has been remanded.
