The Army is organising a band display and sound show at Shangumugham Beach on Friday as a prelude to the Army Mela scheduled to be held at Colachal Stadium, Pangode Military Station, Thiruvananthapuram, on December 8 and 9.

Army bands will perform the show at Shangumugham beach from 5 pm onwards.

Defence Minister A K Antony will inaugurate the Army Mela on December 8. Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor will attend. Entry to the mela is free.

An exhibition on a wide range of weaponry, including tanks and missiles, and audio and video presentations on the various regiments of the Indian Army are among the programmes planned during the Know Your Army Mela-2012 being held at Pangode this weekend.

Rifles, guns, tanks, radars and missiles will be among the exhibits, Army officials said. Adventure activities like motorcycle displays, sky diving stunts, paramotor display, a segment on commando operations and horse and dog shows are also planned.

The segment on the regiments will deal with the history, traditions and customs.
