Eram e-toilets to make entry into J&K

Electronic Toilets (e-Toilets) which are growing in number in the state, thanks to its sanitation factor, is set to be a common feature in snow-clad Jammu and Kashmir too.   Pioneered by Eram Scientific Solutions, a Thiruvananthapuram based firm, the e-toilets for Jammu and Kashmir have been customised as per the region’s geographical and sub-zero climatic conditions.

The official flag-off of the container vehicle carrying e-toilets to Jammu would be done by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday at 8 a m from the Cliff House. Several political leaders and bureaucrats from the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, would also be present at the function.

“The launch would mark the start of Kanyakumari to Kashmir network of e-toilets by Eram Scientific,” a statement from the firm said.

The e-toilets would be set up at Affarwat and Gulmarg. In addition to e-toilets, specifically designed STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) would be set up in Dal Lake to address its waste treatment woes. A 2.5 tonne container loaded with the e-toilet and STP components would leave from Thiruvananthapuram to Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.Earlier this year, the Tourism Director of Jammu and Kashmir had approached Eram Scientific to design customised e-toilets which could function in sub-zero temperatures, even at -55 degree celsius. In order to function at this sort of extreme cold temperature, military grade equipment have been used in the customised e-toilet model.

“The modified features include insulation of mechanical structure with high density thermocole, polyform insulated water tanks to prevent water freezing, anti-freeze solution mixed water for flushing and floor washing, temperature controlled water heater in the plumbing line of health faucet to provide mild hot water, temperature controlled room heater, aero-tape insulations in plumbing lines etc,” the statement said.
