Streetlights: Corporation flays hike in power tariff

At the Corporation Council meeting held on Wednesday, the ruling and opposition parties unanimously demanded the withdrawal of the increased electricity tariff to light streetlights under the Corporation limits.

The Corporation remits Rs 7.4 crore a year to the KSEB as electricity charges towards this. As per the new rates, this would become Rs 11.4 crore, which would be a heavy burden for the Corporation. The resolution was introduced  by Works Standing Committee chairman V S Padmakumar.

The council also criticised officers showing lethargic attitude in duty causing inconvenience to the public. There were also demands to take action against such officers. This was raised while awarding good service entry to Mini, assistant executive engineer of the Corporation.

Deputy Mayor G Happykumar said that the Corporation would be demanding that the government should widen the IKM section of Corporation and implement the e-governance project.
