Smoking scene posters: Health Department registers case

The Health Department on Thursday registered a case against the director, actor and producer of the film ‘Karmayodha’ in connection with the smoking scene posters.  A case has been registered against director Major Ravi, actor Mohanlal, managing director of the production and distribution company and managers of Nila, Sreekumar, Sree Vishak theatres where the film is being screened.  The Health Department officials also seized posters of the film.

The case has been registered under section 22 of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (prohibition of Advertisement and regulation of Trade and Commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act 2003. As per the Act, the guilty is liable for two years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 1,000.

The Health Department is on a drive against tobacco usage as part of the ‘Safe Thiruvananthapuram’ project.
