Youths held for attacking CPO

Two youths hailing from Valiyathura were arrested by Pettah police on charges of attacking and obstructing the duty of a Civil Police Officer (CPO) in the wee hours of Thursday.

The arrested have been identified as Ajith Alex, 21, of Chilanthimukku near Valiyathura and Shanu Clement, 20, of Fishermen Colony at Kochuthoppu near Valiyathura.

According to the police, Prem Kumar, a Civil Police Officer attached to the Pettah police station, was attacked by a three-member gang near Chackai Junction.

Prem Kumar was patrolling the area along with a home guard when they came across a three-member gang in an inebriated state.

When the policemen tried to question them the youths manhandled Prem Kumar and tried to flee.

The two youths were taken into custody by a police team which reached the spot after being alerted by Prem Kumar. But the third person managed to escape. The arrested were produced before the court and remanded.
