In a suspected case of car race, four youths were injured after the vehicle in which they were travelling rammed into a   roadside tree on the Vellayambalam-Kowdiar road near the Raj Bhavan campus late on Sunday night.

The injured were rushed to the hospital in a police vehicle and a 108 ambulance.

The over-speeding car which was proceeding towards Vellayambalam lost control and rammed into a tree on the other side of the road, Traffic police officials said.

Eyewitnesses said the incident was a car race and the other car involved in the race sped away when the accident occurred.

‘’Both the cars was speeding side by side and the roaring sound could be heard from far,’’ said an eyewitness.  ‘’Three persons, except the driver, were visibly severely injured,’’ said Rajesh, a motorcycle rider who escaped by a whisker from being hit by the car.

The front portion of the car was severely damaged in the incident and oil was seen spilled on the road. The Fire and Rescue personnel washed the road later in the night to prevent vehicles skidding on the road.
