THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prof S Guptan Nair Foundation has called for establishing a memorial for noted literary critic Guptan Nair at Thiruvananthapuram.  A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy by Foundation president Puthussery Ramachandran at the Prof Guptan Nair commemoration meet and award distribution function here on Monday. The CM presented the Prof Guptan Nair award to noted poet O N V Kurup at the function.

 Presenting the award, Oommen Chandy lauded the efforts of the Foundation in highlighting the contributions made by Guptan Nair to Malayalam literature and Kerala society. This would help the new generation to know those who had played a major role in the flowering of Malayalam literature.

‘’I am very proud to present the award to ONV, who is an asset of Kerala in the  field of poetry.  He is a person who had upheld the traditions of Kerala,’’ the Chief Minister said.

 Puthussery Ramachandran, who presided over the function, said that Guptan Nair was a  person who was able to propagate the rich culture of Kerala through his works. The State Government should consider how to keep alive the memories on Guptan Nair in the minds of the people.  Foundation working president and Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar welcomed the gathering. A M Vasudevan Pillai read the ‘’scroll of honour’’ which was presented to O N V Kurup.  Perumbadavam Sreedharan delivered the commemorative speech. B Benjamin, O N V Kurup and Lakshmi Nair spoke.
