THRISSUR: The hopes are high for the Carmel Girls’ HSS, Thiruvananthapuram which, with 40 points, now stands in the third position in the state in the School Youth Festival underway here. With three more days to go, the school is keeping its fingers crossed.

To start with, the Orchestra team won the first place in the competition in the high school-level which was held on Wednesday. Haritharaj M, Kavyanath J V, Angel William, Angelin Maria, Sreebharathy, Anjana E and Angitha L Vijay were the team members.

Among other group items, ‘Margam Kali’ and Patriotic song, the school bagged A-grade in the competition held in the higher secondary- level.

Mahalakshmi S bagged the first place for Monoact in the higher secondary section and Haritharaj M came first in the competition held in ‘Veena’ in the high school category.

With a few days to go for the conclusion of the festival, the School still believes that it would come out in flying colours.

Sr Renitta, Principal, of the School, said that they are eagerly waiting for other competitions, especially skit and ‘gana mela.’ “In both these items, we have secured prizes in the past; so we hope that this time too, we can repeat history,” she said.

Sr Renitta also said that her school had bagged the first prize in the Orchestra competition in the higher secondary level in the last year’s competition. But this time, they could not qualify as they stood second at the revenue level.

“We went for an appeal, but it was not sanctioned; otherwise, the school would have scored more points for Thiruvananthapuram district,” she said.

In the ‘Kerala Nadanam’ competition in the high school category, Gowry B R secured first position. Megha N stood third in story-writing in the higher secondary level and Aleena Mary Benson secured A-grade in English recitation in the higher secondary category. Reshmi M Nair of the school won A-grade in the Kuchipudi competition in the higher secondary level.
