THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has urged the State Government to sanction the grant for the Library Council.

“The delay in the sanctioning of grants has affected book purchase and distribution of librarian allowance in around 7,500 libraries in the state,” he said in a statement here on Friday.

The successive governments in the state have always sanctioned the annual grant during December and conducted the district-level book fairs with the participation of all publishers.

“The delay in sanctioning the grant for 2011 has affected the libraries, publishers and writers in the state,” he said.
