THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Theeradesa Nethruvedi has asked the State Government to recreate the model village programme of the Fisheries Department by raising the number of beneficiary villages to 16.

They have asked the Government to include five more fishing villages including, Anjuthengu to the already selected eleven villages. In addition they have called for a structural change in the project plan so that the Rs 160 crore for the project be equitably distributed among the 16 villages for various purposes including infrastructure development and housing.

The leadership meeting of the Theeradesa Nethruvedi, which was presided over by Veli Varghese, also urged the reconstitution of various institutions such as the Matsyafed, Coastal Area Development Corporation and the Welfare Fund Board coming under the Fisheries Department.
